Our Story: a Commitment To Wellbeing
At WESTMIDLANDS MENS AID, our journey began with a deep understanding of the unique mental health challenges faced by men, particularly those from Eastern and Western European backgrounds in the West Midlands. We are driven by a personal commitment to create a supportive, culturally aware space where every man feels understood, valued, and empowered to thrive.

Our inspired approach to support
Our approach is uniquely tailored to European men in the West Midlands. We integrate cultural understanding into every service – from offering support in multiple European languages to designing activities that align with cultural norms around community and connection, like group workshops focused on practical skills alongside emotional check-ins. Unlike many general services, we also prioritise peer support led by men from the same cultural backgrounds, creating a safe space where men feel truly seen and understood without judgment.

Culturally sensitive care for every man
WEST MIDLANDS MENS AID stands out by addressing the distinct mental health needs of both Eastern and Western European men in the region. We recognise that attitudes toward mental health vary significantly across these cultures – for example, some Eastern European communities may face unique stigma rooted in historical contexts, while Western European men might encounter different barriers to seeking help. Our team includes staff and peer supporters from diverse Eastern and Western European backgrounds, offering support in over 10 languages. We also design targeted programmes: for instance, workshops that honour Eastern European traditions of collective problem-solving, alongside initiatives tailored to Western European approaches to individual well-being. This dual focus ensures every man feels their cultural identity is respected and their specific challenges are understood.

Who we support and why it matters
WEST MIDLANDS MENS AID supports adult men (30+) from all Eastern and Western European backgrounds living in the West Midlands, including both long-term residents and recent migrants. We help with common challenges like feelings of isolation, anxiety, depression, and stress related to work, family responsibilities, cultural adjustment, or stigma around mental health. Many also seek support with processing past trauma, building healthy relationships, and navigating life transitions – all tailored to respect their cultural identities and life experiences.
